A fox ventures out of his den. The days are once again getting longer and the snow is melting. New growth is starting to emerge as well as other signs of Spring, such as this fairy bringing spring in its wake.
In the myths surrounding the fairy, the seasons were caused by the war between the Seelie and Unseelie courts of fairies. When the Unseelie court gained ground, it brought the winter, but when the Seelie court (more benevolent toward humans) gained ground and began to win it brought more fertile seasons.
This painting was painted in oils on canvas board and finished in 2002.
