The adventure Out in the Black is meant to be used within the Serenity RPG core book world. The RPG was produced by Margaret Weis Productions.
The Lindsay Archer character illustrations depict many characters created for the adventure as well as Saffron from the original Firefly series. The characters for the book were based off of actual individuals in Tracy Hickman's family history of their lives in the west.
Out in the Black was nominated for an Origins Award.
