THE CELESTIAL SERIES
Recently I have begun painting a new series in between illustration projects that I am very excited about. This series of watercolors is inspired by the sun, moon, and stars. The concept takes the celestial bodies of the night sky with the zodiac’s symbology, and mixed it with a fantasy flair to create heavenly bodies of a different sort. Each sign is scheduled to have both a male and female version, representing the different aspects of the zodiac signs. For those signs with less obvious or less attractive symbols, the imagery uses elements associated with different qualities such as making the air signs into angels, the water signs into mermaids, and so on. At times the symbols are more directly related to the commonly associated imagery such as with Sagittarius and the centaur, or in a more obscure way, such as a battering ram for Aries. Most of The Celestial Series keeps a common theme of stars and/or the moon in the background. Regardless of the series being inspired by the zodiac these images were designed to be stand alone works of art with individual appeal to the viewer with or without association to the Zodiac. Although the series is far from completion, these prints are new to the 2008 shows, allowing collectors to start now or simply find the image that speaks to them the most.
